Teen Workshop Series
DIY Recording & Songwriting
What is Teen Workshop Series?
Learn to write songs using at-home recording techniques! In this 9-week program, teen participants (13-17) will learn about songwriting and do-it-yourself recording with the guidance of local songwriters and audio engineers. We will cover the basic elements of songwriting, including melody, lyric, form, and groove. Participants will learn how to use a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) as a songwriting tool, and the basic concepts and techniques for at-home recording.
At the end of the program, each participant will share their original recording at a virtual showcase event! The virtual showcase will take place on November 17th.
Workshops will take place every Wednesday for 9-weeks from 5-7pm, September 22 - November 17.
BGRC is committed to equity and access and will do our best to support individual technology needs. Let us know if you do not have access to a computer, tablet, or phone -- we will have something you can borrow!
There is some particular recording gear you will need for this workshop. Please let us know in your application which of these items you already have access to, so that we can see what everyone needs to borrow!
- Over the ear headphones
- Microphone cable (XLR cable)
- Instrument cable (1/4inch cable)
- Audio interface
- Your instrument of choice (optional)
We offer a sliding-scale tuition rate to ensure ALL rockstars can attend camp. The suggested cost to attend camp is $135.
We offer Full and Partial Financial Aid to keep camp open to everyone; inclusion and accessibility are so important to our camp culture. Please consider donating to our Rock Star program!
If you would like to use an instrument during these workshops, pick one! Keep in mind that you don't NEED an instrument for these workshops; you can use software instruments, loops, your voice, and plenty of other tools we will be teaching you about. This is just an option!
Although there are no instrument lessons during these workshops, we will have plenty of volunteers to help you write your songs.
At the end of the 9-weeks, participants present their original recorded songs at the Virtual Showcase for friends, families, and fans. The Virtual Showcase will be Wednesday, November17th via Zoom and broadcast live on local radio station KZAX.
